450 km of well-maintained and marked hiking trails, from gently flat to challengingly steep up to 2,500 m, lead through a dreamlike and diverse natural landscape and offer a hiking experience of a special kind. Nature lovers and exercise enthusiasts can choose from an almost endless range of hiking trails and mountain tours around the Karwendel and Rofan mountains.
A combination of lake and boat hikes as well as the idyllic route along the car-free western shore of Lake Achensee to the "Gaisalm" are a wonderful addition to the hiking offer. The Achensee region has put together a varied weekly program for all those who like to hike in a group and rely on experienced mountain and hiking guides.
Water pleasures
For many years, the lake has been known as the perfect sailing and surfing spot in the heart of the Alps and offers sailors, surfers and fans of the new trend sport of kitesurfing fantastic water conditions and ideal wind conditions over a length of 9 km. In addition to the Achensee Schiffahrt boats, pedal boats and rowing boats, divers and anglers, Tyrol's largest lake naturally also offers space for the many bathers who get their money's worth all around. The mountain lake is also characterized by its drinking water quality.
Pure cycling experience
The Achensee region is one of the most popular biking destinations in Tyrol with over 250 km of well-signposted and approved cycling and mountain biking routes. For all those who want to enjoy the landscape in a gentle way, there are numerous "easier" bike tours. These lead along the lakeshore, into one of the romantically situated side valleys or to the well-known Alpine pastures (Pletzachalm and Gernalm or the Falzthurn and Gramaialm), which can also be easily reached from the villages.
Challenging and action-packed mountain bike routes of all levels of difficulty, which start in all 5 villages, make the hearts of sports enthusiasts beat faster. Thanks to the well-signposted and officially approved routes, the region is a true biking paradise. The Karwendel and Rofan mountains can boast a real mountain bike highlight with the starting point for the Karwendel Tour. With a length of 237 km, 5,465 vertical meters uphill and 5,076 vertical meters downhill, the Karwendel tour is considered very challenging. However, the effort is doubly compensated for by the breathtaking natural landscape of the Karwendel Alpine Park. Insiders consider the tour to be one of the most beautiful in the Alps.
Family vacation fun around the lake
Water rats and little mountain enthusiasts feel right at home in the Achensee region. Sporty, creative and varied, the little "grown-ups" are offered a great weekly program with new adventures every day. From Monday to Friday, children aged 4 to 12 spend exciting vacation days exploring the region. On the adventurous hike to the Indian tent or on a mysterious treasure hunt, where pirates and buccaneers are also spotted, the focus is of course on playful activities in harmony with nature.
